Analysis of the match between Crvena zvezda and Pafos
The reigning Serbian champions Crvena Zvezda are set to face the current kings of Cyprus, Pafos FC, after a convincing 4-2 aggregate victory over Lech Poznan in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Pafos FC has made a strong statement by defeating Dynamo Kiev both home and away, keeping clean sheets in both legs.
Prior to that, Pafos caused a major upset by knocking out the more experienced and highly rated Maccabi Tel Aviv in Europe’s top competition. This sets the stage for what promises to be an intriguing and exciting showdown.
Crvena Zvezda ranked 29th in last season’s Champions League playoff round, while Pafos made history by reaching the Round of 16 in the UEFA Conference League, extending their club’s season to a record 16 matches — a milestone in Cypriot football. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs and Pafos’ debut against a Serbian side.
It’s worth highlighting that Crvena Zvezda remain unbeaten in their last eight matches this season, boasting seven wins and one draw. Pafos are also in great form, going 13 matches without defeat. Specifically, in the recent qualifying rounds, the Cypriot side have won three and drawn one out of four games. Given this impressive form, Pafos will undoubtedly pose a significant challenge for the home side.
