Analysis of the match between Brann and AEK
Brann may not be as dominant as in the 2024 season, but they still show strong potential this year. They began their European campaign in the Champions League qualifiers but were eliminated by RB Salzburg. Dropping into the Europa League, they enjoyed success by defeating Häcken. In the Norwegian league, Brann remain in the title race, trailing leaders Bodo Glimt and Viking by six points, though with a game in hand.
After a difficult patch in July, Brann are regaining their best form, winning 3 of their 4 matches this month, including a 2-1 victory over Tromso last weekend. Another strong performance that earned them all three points, giving coach Freyr Alexandersson confidence heading into their clash with AEK Larnaca.
On the other side, AEK Larnaca return to European competition this season after two years of absence, competing in either the Europa League or, if they lose to Brann, the Conference League. With the Cypriot league yet to start, they have played only six matches across three Europa League qualifying rounds. Their toughest challenge came in the first round, when they progressed past Partizan on penalties.
Subsequently, Imanol Idiakez’s side won 3-2 on aggregate against Celje and 5-3 against Legia. Interestingly, AEK Larnaca failed to win any of their three away games (one draw, two losses), suggesting they could face significant difficulties on the road in Bergen.
